This vacancy is for a Business and Industry Specialist in the Bureau of Industry and Security within the Department of Commerce. As a Business and Industry Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Responsible for direction and integration of the contributions of senior business, industry, and academic professionals and other government agency officials both within and outside the employing organization. Influences agency policy, or effectiveness in one or more critical and high priority program areas. Serves as a technical authority in the program or function assigned to serve as an authoritative spokesperson to outside organizations This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Business and Industry Specialist GS-1101-14, FPL GS-14 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location or local commuting area with the same qualifications and specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS-14 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Developing administrative regulations that disseminate program guidance for applications across organizational lines; AND Providing support and guidance on strategic planning, major policy initiatives, and management priorities to senior leadership; AND Acting as an authority and spokesperson in discussion with government agencies, senior level business, industry, and/or significant congressional staff and committees. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. This position requires a TOP SECRET/SCI CLEARANCE: Any required investigations and clearances must be completed before the selectee can be placed in the position. You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
