Mid-Market Sales Manager, Retail
ToastFull time · Remote, United States · Remote
After years of building an innovative POS platform for restaurateurs, Toast is expanding into new food and beverage concepts: convenience stores, grocery stores, and bottle shops. The Toast Retail platform is already winning with independent operators. Now we are moving upmarket. This role is the person who helps build the commercial motion as we shift towards increasingly complex upmarket accounts. Role Overview As Manager of Mid-Market Sales for Toast Retail, you will lead a small team of Mid-Market Account Executives pursuing multi-location retail with a focus on grocery, liquor, and convenience operators. These are complex accounts with real buying committees, layered compliance requirements, deep inventory and SKU demands, and incumbent systems that took years to entrench. Winning them requires a sales motion that does not exist at Toast Retail yet. You will build it. This is not a role for someone looking to inherit a playbook and run it well. There is no Mid-Market Toast Retail playbook. A growing set of proof points from our SMB business, a leadership team that is investing, and a set of open questions that someone has to go answer. What does discovery look like when the buyer is a VP of Operations and not an owner? Which of our SMB motions translate upmarket and which have to be rebuilt? What do we need from Product to be credible in a 40 store grocery chain? You will form the hypotheses, run them in the field, and turn what works into something repeatable that the next ten AEs can execute. Expect to spend real time outside your own team. Getting this motion off the ground means sitting with Product on inventory and scan data gaps, with Marketing on messaging that lands with a category buyer, with Enablement on training that does not exist yet, with Deal Desk and Finance on structures we have not offered before, and with Onboarding on implementations that are meaningfully harder than a single site install. Your ability to move those partners without formal authority over any of them will matter as much as your ability to coach a deal. This is a player coach role in year one. You will carry a number yourself while you hire and build the team, which means you will be closing Mid-Market Retail deals before you are coaching them. That is deliberate. The person who writes this playbook should draw from their own first-hand experiences from running the motion, not just observations of other people running it. As the team scales, your quota shifts to theirs. You will report to the VP of Sales, Toast Retail. This is a remote opportunity with travel expectations up to 40 percent of the time. A day in the life Carry and deliver an individual quota in year one (player-coach) while you hire, onboard, and ramp your team, transitioning to a full team number as your team scales. Hire, develop, motivate, and manage a quota achieving Mid-Market sales team from the ground up, setting the bar for talent in a brand new function Build and codify the Mid-Market Retail sales process: discovery frameworks, demo flows, business case models, mutual action plans, and executive proposals tailored to grocery, liquor, and convenience buyers Run a disciplined sales process and coach your team on qualification rigor, multithreading, and champion development inside complex retail organizations Own live Mid-Market deals end to end yourself, then convert what you learn into discovery frameworks, demo flows, business cases, and proposals the team can run Get in the field. Join discovery calls, sit in on site visits, and walk stores with your reps so the playbook you write is grounded in what actually happens in front of a customer Own all stages of the sales lifecycle with your team: pipeline generation, executive meetings, value proposition development, deal structuring, negotiation, and close Partner across Product, Marketing, Enablement, Deal Desk, Finance, and Onboarding to close the gaps that stand between us and a repeatable Mid-Market motion, and escalate the ones you cannot close yourself Bring the voice of the Mid-Market retailer back into the product roadmap with specificity and evidence, not anecdotes Forecast accurately in a business with little historical data, and be honest about what you know versus what you are still learning Assess and engage in competitive RFPs Leverage GTM tech stack to run an efficient, AI-anchored motion: establish the conversion benchmarks that do not exist yet, and report on them credibly. Distinguish repeatable process from one off hero deals, and build only the former into the playbook Stay close to the competitive landscape across grocery, liquor, and convenience technology, and position Toast Retail sharply against incumbents What you'll need to thrive 5+ years of sales experience in a sourcing and closing role, with a track record in Mid-Market or complex, multi stakeholder deals 3+ years of sales leadership experience with a proven record of building and developing quota achieving teams and excellence in outbound pipeline generation Demonstrated expertise in complex deal development, financial structuring, negotiation, and closing with new and existing customers Proficiency with MEDDPICC or a comparable qualification methodology, plus disciplined pipeline management and forecasting A closer who is also a builder. You are recently and personally credible in front of a Mid-Market buyer, and you are not looking for a role where you stop selling A genuine founder's mindset. You are energized rather than frustrated by ambiguity, and your instinct when a process is missing is to write it rather than ask for it Exceptional cross functional influence. You have a history of getting Product, Marketing, and Operations partners to move on your priorities without owning them Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to hold the room with executive stakeholders and negotiate complex pricing arrangements Comfortable educating customers and team members on the fundamentals of US credit card processing What will help you stand out Experience standing up a new segment, vertical, or motion inside an existing company, especially taking an SMB product upmarket Experience selling into or operating within grocery, convenience, liquor, or specialty retail Fluency in the operational realities of retail: inventory depth and SKU management, scan data, shrink, category management, age verification and compliance, fuel and foodservice Experience in a fast paced, high growth technology environment A proven track record of creating a winning culture that performs at a high level Is this your kind of build? The best version of this hire is someone who reads a role with this much white space and gets excited rather than nervous, and who wants to close the first ten deals themselves before handing the playbook to a team. If you want to point at a Mid-Market business two years from now and say you built it, we would like to talk. AI at Toast At Toast, one of our company values is that we're hungry to build and learn. AI Ops Lead - Forward Deploy
MercuryFull time · San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States · Remote
Mercury is building the financial stack for startups. We're working to make complex financial workflows feel simple, thoughtful, and perhaps even a little magical. You can see some of this in action in our demo dashboard. Most AI initiatives don't stall because the models aren't capable or the tools don't exist. They stall at the last mile: a promising solution gets built, but the way a team works never really changes. AI Operations exists to close that gap. We're looking for a forward-deployed lead who can embed deeply with teams across Mercury, understand how their work actually happens, and turn AI's potential into measurable improvements. You'll spend a few months at a time partnering closely with a particular function. You'll learn the team's work well enough to identify the true constraint—not simply the most tedious task. Then you'll build against it using the tools and infrastructure created by Mercury's AI Engineering team, iterating until the outcome moves and the new way of working sticks. Once it does, you'll make sure the team can carry it forward. You'll leave behind well-built tools, clear documentation, and confident owners before moving on to the next high-leverage problem. You'll be the first person to bring it to teams across the rest of Mercury, beginning most likely with Compliance. That means you won't just run the playbook—you'll help write it. You'll determine what makes an embed successful, how long it should last, what a durable handoff requires, and how AI Operations should decide where to focus next. This role sits somewhere between builder, operator, and change agent. You'll be responsible for helping teams adopt new workflows through thoughtful implementation, training, documentation, and plenty of iteration. Mercury aims to make banking* feel secure, reliable, thoughtful, and perhaps even magical. Your job will be to make the way Mercury works internally feel just as considered. You will: Embed with teams across Mercury and learn their work deeply enough to identify where AI could meaningfully improve a business outcome. Partner with functional leaders to define a clear measure of success before building—whether that means reducing turnaround time, shrinking a backlog, improving quality, or increasing capacity. Build and ship AI-powered workflows, automations, and internal tools using AI Engineering's existing platform. Test and iterate until the solution produces a measurable result, not simply until it reaches production. Lead the change management required to make new ways of working stick, including training, documentation, and ongoing support. Create durable handoffs, leaving each team with reliable tools, clear operating documentation, and an accountable owner. You should: Have 4–7 years of experience in management consulting, business operations, product operations, or a similar role where you owned a business outcome end to end — not just a project plan. Have hands-on experience building with AI: agents, workflows, automations, internal tools. Not just using AI products day to day. Be comfortable defining your own KPI, plan, and build in ambiguity, then defending all three to a skeptical team lead. Be fluent enough with tooling (APIs, low-code and no-code builders, SQL) to know what's feasible, and fluent enough in plain language to sell it to a team that didn't ask for a new tool. *Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games. As a Staff Engineer on the Safety Experience team, you'll be a technical leader who autonomously delivers real business impact on large, ambiguous projects. You'll design and build product features and systems that prevent harmful activities at scale while ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to be a force multiplier for your team: driving engineering excellence, making solid technical decisions, and remaining a top code contributor. You'll work cross-functionally to shape the technical direction of safety initiatives that protect hundreds of millions of Discord users. This role reports to the Engineering Manager of Safety Experience. What You'll Be Doing Lead development of high-impact, user-facing safety products that deliver measurable results for Discord's users. Own complex, multi-milestone projects end-to-end, identifying optimal solutions, navigating ambiguity and making independent technical decisions. Design, build, and deploy robust production APIs, backend services, and data pipelines that enable safety features to scale efficiently. Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal, and Trust & Safety Operations to create solutions that are both impactful and lovable. Drive engineering excellence by mentoring others and guiding the team through architectural challenges to ensure long-term scalability. Respond rapidly to the ever-evolving abuse and compliance landscape with strategic thinking and swift execution. What you should have 8+ years of relevant industry experience, with demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, high-impact work on complex projects. Strong expertise in Python and back-end API frameworks (Flask, Django). Strong front-end development skills with JavaScript (React, TypeScript) for web and mobile platforms. Significant experience in the Safety or Anti-Abuse domain with deep understanding of trust and safety challenges at scale. Proven track record of owning large projects end-to-end with varying degrees of ambiguity, breaking down work into well-prioritized milestones with clear dependencies. Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term sustainability and scalability. Experience driving engineering excellence: setting quality standards, conducting thorough code reviews, and applying an adversarial mindset to identify security, performance, and scaling issues. Strong communication skills with ability to provide high-quality technical feedback, drive alignment across stakeholders, and facilitate productive debates that lead to clear decisions. Experience using metrics and dashboards (e.g., Datadog, Mode, Faros) to make data-driven decisions and monitor system health. Ability to be a force multiplier for your team by mentoring others, establishing best practices, and helping teammates grow their skills. Experience utilizing AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor to supercharge dev workflows Bonus Points Familiarity with databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, or ScyllaDB. Experience with real-time streaming systems like Kafka or Pub-Sub. Track record of building and operating native mobile features on iOS and Android. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us. About the Team: Relativity Space’s Legal team is nimble, entrepreneurial, and deeply collaborative. Unique to Relativity’s fast-paced, high-growth environment, the team works across many departments to support Relativity's ambitious goals. The company is in a formative phase, with enough structure to build from and still plenty of room for you to define what’s next. About the Role: The Senior Commercial Counsel will serve as strategic legal counsel supporting Relativity’s buy-side commercial transactions and disputes. You will partner cross-functionally to structure and lead negotiation of agreements for technology development, scalable manufacturing, commodities, rocket parts and components, capex purchase and lease arrangements. The role will be responsible for creating a foundation of standards and practices that enable effective and sound scaling of the contract management function to support the company's rapid growth. Key Responsibilities: Structure and negotiate transactions that enable maturity of technology and manufacturing, ensuring alignment with company objectives, financial plans, and legal positions. Lead high-stakes negotiations for significant transactions, providing strategic counsel on commercial terms, risk allocation, financial implications, and executive alignment. Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of contracts and transaction documents, including agreements for technology development, rocket parts, manufacturing services, commodities, and capex purchase and lease arrangements. Provide strategic counsel that empowers leadership and cross-functional teams to make practical, well-informed decisions by translating legal complexity into clear business guidance. Experience handling commercial disputes and pre-litigation matters, arbitration, and litigation, including developing resolution strategy and balancing legal risk against business objectives. Systems thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and can design scalable processes. Motivated self-starter who can lead cross-functional projects independently and thrive in ambiguous, fast-changing environments. Nice to haves but not required: Experience with supply chain legal issues, tariffs, and international transactions. Knowledge of financial analysis and ability to evaluate commercial terms from a financial perspective. Experience implementing contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems and legal technology tools. How to be successful in this role: - 8+ years of backend development building reliable, scalable, fault-tolerant systems. - You've designed and shipped external or public product APIs: contracts, versioning, authentication, and the developer experience around them. - You think in service boundaries and system design rather than any single layer of the stack, with enough data-layer fluency to partner well with dedicated platform teams. - You're comfortable working in a modern frontend codebase (we use React); you don't need to be an expert, but building product end to end is part of the day-to-day here. - Track record driving complex, ambiguous, multi-quarter initiatives to completion, directly and through others. - Experience rolling out or deprecating major systems safely at scale. - Strong written design communication and demonstrated mentorship; you multiply the engineers around you. - Open to using AI to amplify their skills and strengthen their work - demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact. Bonus: startup or bias-for-action environments, MongoDB at scale, prior work in security or compliance products. Requirements - Physical location: you must reside in, and perform all work exclusively from within, the United States, accessing systems only from U.S. locations. - Work Authorization Requirements: You must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship What you can expect as a Vanta’n: - Industry-competitive salary and equity - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 100% of employee-only benefit premiums covered for most medical plans - 16 weeks fully-paid Parental Leave for all new parents - Health & wellness stipend - Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend - Commuter benefits for team members who report to the SF and NYC office - Family planning benefits - Matching 401(k) contribution with immediate vesting - Flexible PTO policy, plus 80 hours of Sick Time - 11 company-paid holidays - Virtual team building activities, lunch and learns, and other company-wide events! - Offices in SF, NYC, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, and Sydney To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges for all US-based job postings regardless of state. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors and may vary based on candidate location, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials. #LI-remote At Vanta, we are committed to hiring diverse talent of different backgrounds and as such, it is important to us to provide an inclusive work environment for all. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender identity, age, religion, sexual orientation, veteran or disability status, or any other protected class. As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage and welcome people of all backgrounds to apply. About Vanta We started in 2018, in the wake of several high-profile data breaches. Online security was only becoming more important, but we knew firsthand how hard it could be for fast-growing companies to invest the time and manpower it takes to build a solid security foundation. Vanta was inspired by a vision to restore trust in internet businesses by enabling companies to improve and prove their security. From our early days automating security monitoring for compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA and ISO 27001 to creating the world's leading Trust Management Platform, our vision remains unchanged. Now more than ever, making security continuous—not just a point-in-time check— is essential. Thousands of companies rely on Vanta to build, maintain and demonstrate their trust— all in a way that's real-time and transparent. Technical Program Manager, Billing
AnthropicFull time · San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY · On site
About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the Role Anthropic's billing surface is growing fast. New products, new regions, and new channels all need to be metered, priced, invoiced, and reconciled, and the work to make that happen crosses billing engineering, GTM systems, finance, and support teams. Today much of it runs on escalations rather than programs. We're hiring a Technical Program Manager to own the cross-functional programs in this space. You'll partner closely with billing engineering, GTM systems, finance and treasury, product, and support, and give leadership a single clear view of priorities, dependencies, and progress. Responsibilities Drive the cross-team programs that build billing platform foundations, from scoping and tradeoff decisions through delivery Standardize how new commercial work enters billing: a framework driven intake, clear owners, and sequenced dependencies across billing teams and their stakeholders Own the promotions program end to end: one repeatable path from proposal to configuration to reconciliation, for both self-serve and sales-led programs Own commercialization and launch readiness for billing: no new product or SKU launches without pricing, metering, invoicing, and reporting in place Own the change process for the charge pipeline Run payments operations programs in partnership with finance and treasury, including currency and FX You may be a good fit if you Have 6+ years of technical program management experience, with a track record of owning cross-functional programs end to end Can reason about metering, invoicing, and payment flows, and the data pipelines behind them Have run launch readiness programs where a new product needed its commercial and billing path in place before it shipped Can build trust with engineers, finance and treasury partners, GTM systems, product, and support teams, and translate between them Are comfortable driving outcomes across teams that don't report to you Would rather build a repeatable process than keep fixing the same problem by hand Strong candidates may also have Experience with promotions or credit programs or enterprise billing platforms Familiarity with FX, treasury, month end close, or reconciliation Background in payments operations, billing platform, or quote-to-cash product management Familiarity with chargeback and refund operations The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $290,000—$365,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit anthropic.com/careers directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
